Summer Patio | 2019

Ohh Summer, you sure have been missed! This past weekend we hung the string lights up around our outdoor patio area, and it finally felt like summer had arrived. We try to use our outdoor space as much as possible, because it always feels like just as soon as summer has arrived, it’s saying goodbye around here. It doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, when it comes to sitting by the fire at night, it’s our favorite way to celebrate those long summer days. Come and take a look at our patio all ready for summer.

It’s hard to believe that we created this space just four years ago, when it feels like it’s been here forever. I guess that’s a good sign of showing just how much we enjoy using this space, and how much we love to entertain out here in the summer.

We expanded the area behind our outdoor sofa last summer to provide a place to dine outdoors as well, and this space also dubs as my office are in the summer. The wifi just reaches, giving me a space to work outside while the kids run around.

One of the questions I get asked most about this space is what type of rock we used for the area. First I will tell you that we chose to do crushed stone because it was the most affordable, and the easiest to install. Meaning that if we chose to do pavers or something else, we would have had to worry about how level the area was, and it would have taken so much more work.

We used 3/4″ crushed granite, and I shared more about the process, and how we installed it HERE, when we rented a bobcat and expanded the area last spring.

Even though the area is surrounded by trees, I still like to add potted plants, and bring in planters, because it really makes the space feel cozy.

To the left of our outdoor patio is our chicken coop area. We recently cut down some trees that were dead that separated the two areas, and planted some lilac trees, and have a few more things to add over there. I will be sure to share more of how we landscaped around out chicken coop soon!

We really do enjoy using this space, and having what feels like our own private outdoor oasis. It makes entertaining in the summer a breeze, and honestly one of the things we look forward to most!

Everything looks beautiful! I love the summer and being outdoors. However, we have been inundated with rain, rain, rain. Much flooding here and so therefore, I do not get to enjoy my porches and back yard as I normally do. We opened our pool in May and it has only been used three times due to the weather. Again, your place looks so inviting.

The light colonised with the touch of black and all the natural grass/trees makes this a standout! Thanks for sharing.

PS. What are the white looking trellis? Details, please!
